Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Heat a large heavy pan over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and brown, breaking up any large clumps.
Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, and sauté until the vegetables are just tender.
Add the marinara sauce and bring to a simmer for 5 minutes.
While the sausage mixture is cooking, add the spinach, ricotta, parmesan, and egg until thoroughly combined.
To assemble, place half of the sausage mixture in the bottom of a baking dish, top with the ricotta mixture, then the remaining sausage mixture, then the fontina cheese.
Bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve hot with crostini and breadsticks.
